Narayani Guibarra

Narayani began practising yoga in 1991. She attended classes with Julie
Friedeberger at the Dharma Yoga Centre for ten years and also undertook five years
of teacher training finishing in 2000. Narayani also studied viniyoga for two years with
Geoff Farrer. Narayani then expanded her experience of yoga by studying with Val
Field who is influenced primarily by the Satyananda tradition as well as Monica Lee
whose influences are broad and from various traditions. Narayani is also a British
Wheel of Yoga
teacher.

Through practising yoga, meditation and qi gong, Narayani became aware of the
energy flowing from her hands. Narayani met and studied with Swami Dharmananda
Saraswati
, the head of the Dharma Yoga Centre who, at various retreats and study
days, passes on the spiritual practices of yoga and who also “gave” Narayani her
spiritual name which she now uses at all times. On one of these retreats, Swami
Dharmananda, through the healers she personally had trained, introduced Narayani
to spiritual healing. Narayani took this further by undertaking healing courses levels
1-4 with the National Federation of Spiritual Healers and subsequently attended at
the Bromley Healing Centre offering healing on a voluntary basis.

Narayani developed her healing abilities further by training in yogic touch therapy,
a combination of energy awareness and bodywork. Narayani also studied Shiatsu
in order to develop confidence in bodywork.

Narayani’s other influences are working with sound through Jas Dawson and James
D’Angelo both of which have benefited her and this work, together with chanting, has
helped open and strengthen her voice. Another strong influence has been Dances of
Universal Peace
which have also opened her to universal energy and awareness of
peace and love. Narayani also trained to become a sound healer with Simon Heather
of the College of Sound Healing and subsequently facilitated the sound healer training course.

Narayani is also a Buddhist, chiefly guided by Zen teacher Thich Nhat Hhan of
the Community of Interbeing, and practises mindfulness daily.

Narayani has become a laughter facilitor through the Laughter Network.
She is also a cognitive hypnotherapist and nlp practitioner trained by the
Quest Institute.

As well as teaching a yoga evening classes Narayani also teaches day yoga
workshops and weekend retreats and holidays and often works with other yoga
teachers and has also worked with teachers/facilitators of sound work, drumming,
dances of universal peace, story telling, Alexander Technique, Life coaching.
Having for two years taught the core curriculum of the sound healing practitioner training
for the Colege of Sound Healing as well as offering day workshops in sound healing,
Narayani continues to run a monthly sound support group.

Narayani is now a student at Birkbeck University on a creative writing degree course
and currently writes and performs poetry at local poetry and art events.

Narayani is grateful to Lisa Kaley-Isley who covered the Monday classes during the
2010-2011 academic year enabling Narayani to begin her studies. Thank you Lisa.
